About the Item

This antique Swedish corner cabinet is a beautifully preserved two-part piece of furniture, crafted in painted pine with a timeworn patina. Designed specifically to sit neatly in the corner of a room, a corner cabinet (or “encoignure”) is both space-efficient and visually striking—ideal for elegant interiors with character. This piece is finished in a technique known as “rechampi”, a traditional decorative method where contrasting colors are painted into moldings and recesses to highlight the carved details and structure of the furniture. Here, the rechampi is subtle, worn by time, and gives the cabinet its distinctive layered appearance. The cabinet features a lower and upper section, each opening with a single door painted with naïve floral motifs. Its chamfered side panels, bold molded cornice, and a charming carved niche with a star motif in the center reflect the refined simplicity of 18th-century Swedish rural craftsmanship. Compact and full of personality (H.150 x W.67 x D.45 cm), this painted pine corner cupboard will enhance any country house, hallway, or rustic interior. A superb example of Scandinavian folk art furniture, perfect for collectors or anyone looking to add authentic Nordic charm to their home.
