About the Item

A handpainted folk art wedding chest by the noted maker Peter Hunt of Provincetown, Massachusetts. Hunt was a charismatic figure who sold his colonial and Dutch revival decorated found furniture on the Cape to wealthy summer visitors and celebrities such as Helena Rubenstein, who helped him gain a following in the 1940s. This cedar lined example would serve well as an end-of-bed blanket chest and is signed with his signature “anno” notation and dated 1948.
