A decorative French 19th century Neo-Classical st. Giltwood and Églomisé painting of Marseille. This stunning painting is set within a wonderful Églomisé Gilt and black border before the mottled and foliate decorated Giltwood frame. The fitted glass pane displays a wonderful scene of the Port of Marseille with boats entering and leaving while various figures dressed in period clothing are strolling along the waterway. Églomisé is an ancient decorative art technique where the back of a glass panel is gilded with gold, silver, or metal leaf, often with designs etched or painted on top, creating a shimmering, reverse-painted effect used for mirrors, furniture, and wall art.
