About the Item

A large size decorative Swedish folk art painted wall hanging-Bonad which may have been originally from a church. Painted on canvas in natural pigments it depicts naive biblical themes that are traditional of these folk hangings ,that would be displayed in the home on special occasions. However more unusually it is painted on both sides. The earlier (late C18th) is in pale tones depicting angels in orange and blue, later (early 19th) shows figures, horses and buildings painted in strong pigments in four sections.
