About the Item
1995 Mark McCloud Blotter Art titled "Jolly Roger". Blotter Art Work by Mark McCloud based on the Skull and Crossbones designed by the alternative artist S. Clay Wilson. Each square contains a single skull image, with a larger outline image imposed over the top. This sheet Collected in 1995 at “The Artrock Gallery” in San Francisco California, exhibition titled "Timothy Leary in Wonderland", directly from Mark McCloud sold through the exhibition of the original run offered during the exhibition sale 8/10/95 - 10/20/95.
The show featured Mark McCloud's extensive collection of chemically inactive, or "undipped," blotter art. This was a landmark event, considered to be the first gallery exhibition of blotter art as a legitimate art form. The exhibition opened on August 10, 1995, ran for two months ending in late October 1995. This Blotter Art is a significant piece of American Folk Art – “Psychedelic Art” of the “Blotter Art Period” (1970s-1990's). Early blotter art was made for the practical purpose of discreetly distributing and branding LSD doses. Folk art reflects the life and culture of a specific community. Blotter art is deeply rooted in the 1960s/70s counter-culture, drawing on psychedelic aesthetics, underground comix, and symbols important to that community.
This Blotter Art Sheet is in mint condition, never matted, kept in a plastic frame case. The clear plastic case can display on the wall or easily comes apart for any future display application.
Comes with certificate of Authenticity.
