About the Item
Whimsical Hooked rug with a pink striped cow and a little white dog, ca 1885-1910
Hooked rug with a pink striped cow, wearing a large cowbell, followed by a small white dog. With excellent folk style, these are canted at a downward angle within a diamond-shaped window consisting of mottled brown, black, tan, and purple. The background is diagonal opposing stripes in mostly red, blue, brown, and grey. A large and whimsical example, made almost entirely of wool with a couple of small runs executed with cotton knits. American, found in the northeast, made circa 1885-1910.
Mount: The rug was mounted by our own, in-house textile conservation staff and is presented on a 1” deep wooden strainer frame, wrapped in black cotton twill.
