About the Item

A charming miniature chest of drawers made from carved slate With dummy drawers and Prince of Wales feathers detail. Miniature chests, bureaus and similar pieces of folk art were carved by quarrymen in North Wales. Most date from the late 19th Century. As is often found with slate carving there are some small losses but this is not unusual and often does not detract from the item, if anything it gives an idea as to how difficult it is to work with slate. By its very nature it easily chips and cracks. Free UK shipping
