About the Item

This grouping of 3 figurines and 9 sculpture head figures were obtained directly from Dr. Harley Niblack by the consignor's father (who was also a woodturner) in the late 1950's, early 1960's. Largest is 12" tall. Dr. Niblack carved and painted such pieces between 1942 up until his death in 1966. They are all in pristine condition and have been kept in a display cabinet. Having taken to woodcarving and having worked with Disneyland animatronics, his style conveys a realism and expression lost with modern stop animation and cartoons. Dr. Niblack's carving capture Americana Folk Art in exceptional detail. You can see the influences back and forth between clay stop animation of the era. Niblacks unique furniture and sometimes his human figurines have come to market, but to date the mounted heads have not been seen come to market and are rare indeed. Of all these examples, one is signed Wesstyle Carving original noted on the bottom. Also included but not photographed are vintage photos from the consignors childhood showing the pieces displayed in their home. His work is historically important with private collections and the Smithsonian.
