About the Item

Impressive hand carved statue of a lying Christ. Carved from a solid piece of oak. Impressive in size. The anatomy is correct and the facial expression is amazing. Made by a skillful and talented artist. Probably made in the late 19th, early 20th century in the Netherlands. 2 small pieces are missing. One toe and one partial finger. Not conspicuous because the underlying wood gained the same patina as the rest of the wood. It has a rapair on the left hand. Four finger and the dumb were broken. Luckily they were still with the piece and they were re-attached. All damage and repairs can be seen on the photos.
