About the Item
Swedish folk art wood sculpture, dated 1936, depicting a seated worker quietly reading a workers’ newspaper. Titled Stilla Stunder (“Moments”), the figure captures a moment of reflection and dignity, emblematic of Scandinavian social realism and the cultural ideals of the Swedish Folkhem era.
Hand-carved from wood and retaining its original polychrome surface, the sculpture displays expressive tool marks and a strong, balanced form. The restrained color palette and thoughtful posture emphasize calm concentration and the value of knowledge in everyday working life.
The sculpture is initialed “EN” and dated 1936 on the underside. The title is carved into the front of the base. A compelling and highly collectible example of early 20th-century Nordic folk sculpture with clear historical and social context.
