This exquisite bronze sculpture by German sculptor Werner Meurer (1911-1986) presents a standing girl, cast in a strictly limited edition from one of the artist’s few authorised runs. Meurer studied at the Werkschule Dortmund and the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, and later served for two decades at the Cologne Cathedral workshop, producing large-scale ecclesiastical commissions and refined figurative sculpture. His work style is marked by an understated sense of form, clarity of line, and a measured dignity: “He developed through commissioned works and executed many figurative and architectural sculptures, repeatedly choosing relief and figure with a calm presence rather than flamboyant gesture.” This standing girl exemplifies those qualities — poised, quietly assured, and expertly modelled in bronze with subtle patina. It is signed or monogrammed by the artist on the lower back of the sculpture, cast in very few editions, and comes ready for display in a gallery-style interior. A note about the artist: Anne Van Kleeck was primarily known for her works in cast bronze and ceramics. She attended Ohio Wesleyan University (B.A.) and Ohio State University (M.A.) and spent several years as a professor of art in Ohio and Florida.
