About the Item
The statue is standing on a rectangular base, the body covered with bundles of knotted cloth from feet to chin, the rounded, ovoid head with tight mouth baring teeth and a slender nose bisecting the circular eyes inlaid with glass and wearing a tall resinous magical bundle at the crown; varied aged patina overall. For a closely related power figure collected in the Yombe territory of Nzobe Luzi, see Lehuard, R., "Art Bakongo: Les Centres de style", Arnouville, 1989, vol.2, p.542, figs.j18-1-1, and J18-1-2.
