A stolen gem!!!! beautiful penned circa mid to late 18th century notice for it to be returned. Housed in a later glazed deep moulded gilt frame
“Stolen or strayed the 8th instant At witton Gilbert a large old fashioned heart set round with antique jewels (viz) constancy truth sincerity and good humour with a small parcel of wit.
Fixed in the middle and secured with gold, whoever may have it in possession is desired to advertise where the owner may call and have it restored.
NB. A tall young lady in white is violently suspected and is desired to peruse this advertisement and if guilty to find means of doing the injured owner justice, it can be of no use to her unless the gentleman who has lost this heart instructs her how to manage it”
Age related browning, stains, creases and holes to the paper but still perfectly legible. The fame lots of losses, nibbles, elderly repairs and missing gesso work, but has a wonderful look.
