About the Item

I am a long time advertising collector and dealer. I have a particular fondness for tin. I find it to be the most alluring, and so you won't see me selling old paper ads. I like to touch and fell tin. Lithographed tin has an almost magical quality for me. The fabulous early tin signs can exhibit great detail and color, and that is what we have here. On top of that, look at the bottom showing off their new "electric car". If this doesn't make you smile, I guess you should stop here. This has been in my collection for a number of years, and while I am not liquidating my collection, I thought I might pass along one of my special pieces. When buying antique advertising, condition is paramount. It's no fun looking at an old rusty sign, no matter what those guys on that American Picker show espouse. This is not a common sign for obvious reasons. One being why would the Lenox Hotel contact the lithograph company and ask for a large quantity of them and the other is that those not discarded were not cared for. This sign was kept and cherished. The condition is near flawless. If you look at the very bottom in tiny lettering, it bears the maker's name of the lithograph company, H.D. Beach Co. Coshocton Ohio. One of the more famous makers of these old chromolithographs. If so, here is a chance a wonderful chromolithograph detailing an old hotel, which by the way is still actually in business.

Condition:
Wear consistent with age and use. Just minor wear on the gold edge and one small spot on the building. No fading, no scratches, and no in-painting, or restoration. A condition 9 + for the those who understand how to grade old advertising signs.
