About the Item

"Porpianong" refers to a Senufo wooden sculpture of a hornbill bird from West Africa, symbolizing fertility, continuity, and the Poro men's society. The figures are also called "Setien" or "Kasingele" and are deeply tied to Senufo creation myths and initiation rites. The sculptures often feature a long, hooked beak touching a bulging stomach, which represents both male and female elements of life and procreation. You probably already know this but some African artifacts are the real thing and some are tourist items. This piece is 100% a tourist item. I have no idea what level of age this piece has, my guess is it was made some time ago but we simply selling selling this item as a decorative piece. You probably also know the the Senufo Bird or horn bill is a much revered icon in west Africa. Personally I love it as a decorative item and I think it will add some flavor to any interior. The piece is carved from a lightweight wood and while its a sturdy piece it is light enough. It stands at 16 inches tall or 40 cm so its a nice size and wont get lost in a big room.
