African Baule statue Mother with child, Ivory Coast mid XXem
Provenance: Swedish private collection, from the 1980s. Then inherited within the family.
Beautiful Baule mother figure seated on a traditional stool, holding two Childs in her arms. The face, with its fine features, is sculpted in medium relief, the contact points marked with a shiny patina. Beautiful headdress composed of three braids. The hands support 2 Childs in a seated position. The sculpture is adorned with glass bead necklaces around the neck and waist. Hardwood with dark brown patina shaded to black.
