About the Item
This Ugandan wooden stool is carved with quiet assurance, its low, circular seat resting on four stout legs shaped by hand rather than rule. The surface bears the soft abrasions of use—subtle facets, worn edges, and a deepened patina that speaks to touch and time. Nothing is ornamental without purpose; every curve and taper arises from function refined into form.
Grounded and intimate, the stool feels less like furniture than a companion to daily life—meant to be moved, sat upon, gathered around. Its presence is calm and dignified, embodying a tradition in which utility and beauty are inseparable, and where the act of making carries the memory of the body that shaped it.

Made from found and reclaimed wood, each of John Seubert's Crash Tables are unique and meticulously crafted. He calls them Crash Tables because they are a collision of parts created from table legs, stair railings, chair backs, etc. which are mitered together to form a solid construction. Once assembled, the table is painted and then distressed to give it an antiqued appearance. Created from salvaged and recycled materials, this pedestal table represents the utmost in sustainable design.

In the early Nineties, John Seubert was living in a former hotel in a high-rise building on St. James Place in Chicago. The apartment was tiny, as hotel rooms tend to be, and clad with paper-thin walls allowing sound to pass from one apartment to the other. At the time, John’s artwork consisted of pounding copper sheets into tables which was a noisy endeavor to say the least. Following several noise complaints from the neighbors, John had a dream that he was living in a ramshackle house but with plenty of room to work and no attached neighbors. The following day after lunching at the McDonalds in Lincoln Park, John wandered the neighborhood a came upon a shabby, falling-down old Victorian house. He located the real estate agent...
