Antique Embroidered Nomadic Herder’s Vest, Tibet
A rare example of a herder’s vest from west Tibet. Composed of thick natural brown Tibetan sheep’s wool, heavily embroidered with natural white wool for reinforcement and stability. It’s a relatively thick vest, very robust, and would have provided warmth and protection from the harsh conditions on the Tibetan plateau.
Provenance: Collected in rural area outside Shigatse in the late 1990s.
