"Antique Pende Basket – Congo (drc) – Early 20th Century" An authentic African basket attributed to the Pende people, from the Bandundu / Kwilu region of the Democratic Republic of Congo, dating to the early 20th century. This basket features a distinctive cylindrical shape, reinforced with dark wooden bands at the top and base. The body is finely woven from natural plant fibers, displaying a restrained and regular pattern typical of Pende utilitarian and ritual storage baskets. The fitted lid and solid construction indicate its original function as a storage container for foodstuffs or valuable/ritual objects. Attractive aged patina with visible signs of use consistent with its age.
