About the Item
Antique Tibetan Sitting Rug or Runner
This unique Tibetan carpet is somewhat unusual, both in size and design layout. It’s narrower and shorter than most classic khaden sleeping rugs, and essentially serves as a small runner, perhaps having been made to fit a specific sitting area. Archaic T and pearl borders contrast nicely with a variegated indigo field completely full of randomly arranged rows of small rosettes, frog’s feet or flaming pearls, Buddhist swastikas, long life shō characters, and other small motifs. The overall layout, along with a soft palette of natural dyes, gives this small carpet a quiet formality often found in older Tibetan rugs.
