About the Item
This is a very rare Museum quality Asafo Banner from the Fante people of Ghana. This banner would date from the early 1950's and would have been displayed wrapped arounf the Asafo Regiment shrine prior to going into battle or hunting. The iconography of the banner represents the Fante Chief and the Asafo ofgicer represented as a Lion. The Tree of life is found in the right hand corner. Over 5 metres long and 1.2 metres wide it is a large piece and in very good condition.
An interesting conversation piece to have hanging in a dinning room .
