About the Item

This is a very rare string of 'Moon and Star ' beads from the Dogon people of Mali. The Dogon History and lineage are designated by the stars hence the iconography of the beadwork. These beads were made in the 19th century and have been carefully strung with a fine Italian trade bead from the 18th century along with contemporary Chevrons. The string of Moon and Star beads is 35 cm in length and the Italian filigri is 5cm.. Total length is 40 cm.
