About the Item

A beautiful example of a Dogon, hardwood grain door still equipped with its lock and engraved with a sober decoration in connection with the Dogon cosmogony. Beginning of the 20th century. These doors are a significant element of Dogon architecture in Mali, traditionally used to safeguard stored grains from harm. The carvings themselves tell spiritual stories and often include imagery of figures, animals, and geometric patterns, with the locks on these doors also being elaborate and functional artistic pieces.  Height : 106 cm.
