About the Item
Early to mid century danced light wood round mask from the Yela or M'bole people, Democratic Republic of Congo, Africa. Finely carved mask with carved raised eyes and diagonal scarification marks (which the dancer would look through), and mouth with pursed lips. Encrusted layers of white pigment on front.
It is in good condition, appropriate for its age, use, and medium. Well used with early dry patina, chips and erosion in places. Scuffs and nicks here and there. Good evidence of use and wear inside from tribal use.
