About the Item
This is a very fine Example of a Chiefs Robe from the Ewe people of Western Togo. Woven from handspun cotton and all natural dyes . This piece would have been worn by a high ranking Chief with the red tones denoting his staturs and the green hues his association with the land The textile is woven on 4 inch strip looms then the panels stiched together . The piece in its current form has many applications. Such as a very decorative wall hanging or a nice covering for a lounge sofa .
This piece has come from an ex Scottish collection .
