About the Item
This is a very rare late 19th century piece of Kente textile from the Volta region of Ghana. Hand woven on strip looms from handspun cotton and all natural dyes .The style and quality of this textile indicates the very high status of the lady who was the original owner. All of the floating motifs are hand sewn and represent the skills of the owner as a cook , a landowner and farmer.
The burgundy border is exceptionally rare . The piece is very versatile and has many contemporary applications such as a bed cover or a throw also as a wall ganging .
