Fine Antique Woman’s Mantle (Awayo), Bolivia
This exceptionally fine woman’s awayo, or mantle, displays three groups of tightly patterned vertical bands and colored stripes separated by two wide cochineal-dyed monochromatic bands, with bands of medium indigo blue along the selvedges. Very finely woven, with a supple handle and wonderful dye saturation.
