About the Item

This is a very rare Palm Wine Cup from the Kuba people of Congo . Carved from very dense hardwood and a glorious patina formed by decades of use . The piece would have been used to drink locally brewed palm wine which would be drank at many ceremonial occassions . The Cup would only be used by the owner and the iconography of the snake handle can be interpreted as ' keep away this cup does not belong to you '. The piece was collected in 1935 by Passionitas Missionaries.
