About the Item
This is a very rare Palm Wine Cup from the Kuba people of Congo. Carved in the early part of the 20th century , possibly earlier. Carved with classic Royal geometric patterns with a beautiful aged patina. This Cup has the added rare feature of a sparrow beak lip. This would signify it was carved for a Royal Lady.
Palm Wine cups were used ritually by the Kuba people and revered in Kuba society with the owner of the cup being the only person to drink from it.
The piece is in exceptional condition and although small in size has great presence.
