About the Item
Mid-20th century tribal beaded cache-sexe modesty apron (pikuran), Bana Guili people, Mandara Mountains, Cameroon
An unusual cache-sexe made of blue and yellow beads so scattered that they appear pea green from a distance. These colorful cache-sexe were worn for celebrations, rituals and rites of passage by women who had reached puberty. A very colorful, jazzy example with riffs on the diamond motif in a variety of colored beads.
