Moroccan Berber hand-carved wooden sugar hammer "Deggaga". Handcrafted by the Berber women of Morocco, hand-carved and hand painted wood with tribal design. This ethnic Berber instrument is a sugar hammer. Sugar in Morocco was sold in block cones, and you needed a hammer to get it in small pieces. A very nice decorative piece of history from a private collection found in Marrakech, Morocco. Dated from early to mid 19th century. Marteau a Sucre "Deggaga" Maroc, 19e siècle. Marteau à sucre en bois gravé et peint à décor géométrique, tête en forme de croissant. Utilisé pour débiter les pains de sucre. Provenance: Collection particulière, Maroc.
