About the Item
A delightful and fanciful Chambri Lake fired and pigmented pottery vessel with applied molded face design, mid 20th century Aibom village, Chambri Lake, Middle Sepik River region, Papua New Guinea.
The fired pottery vessel features a distinctive and abstract "face" to the front. A protruding "nose" centers the face and is surrounded by several circular "eyes". The face is pigmented with a red clay with white and black highlights. The rest of the jar of natural fired pottery with attractive scorch marks.
The vessel sits on a flat base and has a wide opening with a dramatic everted rim.
