About the Item
This is a very fine finger drum by the Showa people of Congo. Exceptional sculptural quality with the original skin sounding board. This drum would have been played at young boys circumcision ceremonies. Carved from local wood known for its sound quality.
The Showa carvers are renowned carvers , carving for many of the indigenous groups in the region.
This piece was collected in the 1920's and comes from a very old Belgian collection.
