Tribal Early 20th Century Ceremonial Pipe, Bamoun People, Cameroon
A ceremonial tobacco pipe fashioned of hardened clay depicting three bearded men, the center figure with arms on chest; each figure is wearing a headdress. Anthropomorphic pipes of this type were used by high-ranking men or royalty. The aroma of tobacco is detectable and the bowl has a shiny patina from much handling. It measures 13 inches (33 cm) long, bowl is 5.5 inches (14 cm) long.
