Mid-20th century Tribal Zulu women's woven red cotton hat, Isicholo, from South Africa
This woman's cotton Isicholo hat is a beautiful example of the hats worn during special ceremonies by married Zulu women. Coated with red ochre, it has a traditional white cotton braid wrapping over the edge from the middle of the hat, which is accentuated with a black circle. Stuffed with straw fibers to maintain its shape, it can easily be hung on the wall as is, or it can be mounted on a stand.
