About the Item

Few of these luxury class Victorian RR lamps still exist. Any remaining examples have found their way into museums and RR car restorations. This is a beautiful original double chandelier still retaining its lift out tank and valve. It also has the clear glass oil bowl and milk glass shades. This chandelier includes the two ceiling smoke catchers from the chimney. The metal parts are a mixture of brass and bronze and there are some expected dings and scratches from 175 years or railroad use. The finish is all polished and was carefully wired to take a standard E26 bulbs. This is a nice piece of railroad history. Note that the lamp was mounted to wood for display only.

Late 19th Century Eastlake Style Gilt Bronze Eight Light Chandelier
Located in Chicago, IL
This late nineteenth-century gilt bronze and brass Eastlake-style chandelier has four lights, etched glass shades, and foliate scroll details. The entirety of the chandelier emphasizes neoclassical iconography and stylings. The body is adorned with mythological sea horses and Zephyr faces, while the central column is embellished to resemble an ancient Greek vase, and the arms have columnar detailing. The Eastlake movement, which spanned approximately from 1870 to 1900, was started by British architect and writer Charles Eastlake and is associated with late Victorian-era aestheticism. Eastlake published his thoughts on design reform. The movement centered on the ethos that furniture in people's homes should be attractive, well-made, and produced by manufacturers who took pride in their work. Eastlake antique...
