These elegant Art Deco opaline glass pendant lights were manufactured in Germany in the 1930s, a period celebrated for its refined industrial design and the rise of modernist lighting across Europe. Salvaged from a pre-war public building in central Germany, each piece reflects the country’s reputation for meticulous glassmaking and precision metalwork during the interwar years.
The hand-blown opaline glass shade is classic to early 20th-century German design—an open-bottomed form that produces a beautifully soft, diffused glow while directing a gentle pool of light downward. Its smooth, double-layered form was engineered to provide even illumination in large communal interiors such as schools, civic halls and municipal offices.
Retaining its original chrome-plated gallery, the pendant shows the clean geometry and functional detailing typical of German Art Deco lighting, where simplicity and craftsmanship were valued over ornamentation.
