About the Item

Crafted in France circa 1870, this exceptional chandelier exemplifies the grandeur and craftsmanship of late 19th-century French decorative arts. The central column is richly adorned, featuring four finely cast cherubs mounted on elaborate scrolled supports with trailing acanthus leaves. Below them, decorative cartouches are embellished with crossed torches, quivers of arrows, and floral sprays, symbolic of enlightenment and abundance. Eight scrolling arms radiate from the center, each intricately detailed with acanthus leaf motifs and terminating in gadrooned drip pans and candle cups. The antique chandelier has been rewired to US standards and fitted with decorative wax candle sleeve covers for an authentic presentation. Cast in heavy bronze and retaining a beautifully patinated gilt finish, the fixture shows superb chasing and crisp detail throughout, from the expressive cherub faces to the elaborate rocaille and foliate ornament. The Louis XV chandelier is substantial in scale and presence, perfectly suited for a grand dining room, formal entryway, or den. In excellent condition commensurate with age and use, this important French fixture will lend a dramatic architectural statement and 19th-century elegance to any interior. Included: a canopy, loop, and chain; each color-matched to the fixture. Measures: 34" diameter. 37" height.
