About the Item
A palatial and superb quality French, 19th century Louis XVI style ormolu figural six-light chandelier with figures of cherubs, after the model by Pierre Gouthiere in the cabinet doré for Marie-Antoinette at the royal palace of Versailles. The finely chased elaborate and ornate gilt bronze body with scrolling arms surmounted with acanthus and rosettes issuing from the center fluted stem, decorated with three seated cherubs playing trumpets, below a classical burning torch, all suspended with three ornate gilt bronze chains, circa Paris, 1870-1880.
Note: The original model of this chandelier by Pierre Gouthiere is illustrated by H. Ottomeyer et al., p. 238, fig. 4.4.1. The design for the chandelier is also illustrated in the aforementioned literature, p. 238, fig. 4.4.2., which is now in the Museé des Arts Décoratifs.

- Condition:Rewired. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor fading. Overall original condition is very good with minor rubbing on the gilt. Wired for electricity.
