About the Item

French Art Deco Pendant Chandelier by André Delatte, France, 1920s France, circa 1920s Materials: Blown glass, solid bronze, and brass Colors: Yellow and blue Signed: “A. Delatte Nancy” (see last photo) A stunning French Art Deco pendant chandelier by celebrated glass artist André Delatte, created in Jarville, near Nancy, in the 1920s. This elegant fixture features a mottled blown double glass shade in beautiful tones of yellow and blue. The glass is paired with a superb solid bronze canopy and hidden-hole fittings, complemented by stamped brass chains. This original Art Deco lighting piece captures the refined craftsmanship and luxurious materials typical of the French decorative arts movement of the early 20th century. The chandelier will be professionally rewired for your country (US, UK, EU, Australia, China, etc.), and it is LED-compatible. About André Delatte (1887–1953) André Delatte was born in Châtenois (Vosges), France, in 1887. Initially a banker, Delatte became close friends with the renowned Muller Frères, who introduced him to the world of artistic glassmaking. Captivated by the chemistry of glass, he left banking to study the craft in depth. In 1919, Delatte opened his first glass studio in Nancy, where he began decorating pieces produced by Muller Frères. By 1921, he had established his own glassworks in Jarville, near Nancy, employing skilled artisans—many of them from Daum’s workshops. His company, Verreries de l’Est, quickly gained acclaim and became one of the leading names in French Art Deco glass. Delatte was a gifted entrepreneur and creative visionary. He surrounded himself with talented craftsmen such as Paul Mahieux, whose technical expertise helped produce some of the finest Art Deco glass of the 1930s. Delatte’s work perfectly embodied the modern elegance and geometric refinement of the Art Deco movement. At its peak in 1926, Delatte’s workshop employed around 60 people and operated from Quai Ligier in Nancy. Unfortunately, the economic crisis and increasing competition from Eastern Europe forced him to close his glassworks in 1933. Delatte later moved to southern France, where he worked in insurance until his passing in 1953. Today, André Delatte’s glass lighting and vases are highly sought after by collectors and interior designers worldwide, prized for their vibrant colors, masterful technique, and authentic Art Deco style.
