This late nineteenth-century gilt bronze and brass Eastlake-style chandelier has four lights, etched glass shades, and foliate scroll details. The entirety of the chandelier emphasizes neoclassical iconography and stylings. The body is adorned with mythological sea horses and Zephyr faces, while the central column is embellished to resemble an ancient Greek vase, and the arms have columnar detailing. The Eastlake movement, which spanned approximately from 1870 to 1900, was started by British architect and writer Charles Eastlake and is associated with late Victorian-era aestheticism. Eastlake published his thoughts on design reform.
