About the Item
An antique good quality Dutch Renaissance brass twelve light twin-tier chandelier, circa 1920 in date.
It features an oval facetted globe cartouche with four interspersed graduated spheres to the stem. The beautifully curved scrolling arms sprout from the two tiers terminating in candle fitments, with vase-shaped nozzles, decorative bands and circular drip pans.
Add an elegant touch to your home with this beautiful highly decorative chandelier.

It is in fantastic condition as it has been dismantled, cleaned and rewired.

Chandelier
The word chandelier appeared in the English language in the late 14th century, borrowed directly from 12th century Old Spanish. This was a new spelling of the 10th century French word chandelabre, which comes from the Latin candelabrum, itself from the Latin candela (meaning candle).
The earliest candle chandeliers were used by the wealthy in medieval times.

Elias Canneman (1933-1970) is the name of a former chief architect of the Dutch National Trust for Historic Buildings. He was trusted with extensive projects after the Second World War, such as the Belfry of Sluis, Walenburg Castle, Duivenvoorde Castle, the New Church and the Markiezenhof. Canneman was also especially sympathetic to the fate of traditional Dutch chandeliers.
