About the Item

This finely cast French Louis XVI style chandelier presents a stately arrangement of twelve candle-form lights mounted in two graduated tiers. The gilt bronze arms sweep outward in scrolling formation, each terminating in a reeded nozzle and leafy bobeche, suspended with hand-cut crystal prisms in pear, lozenge, and diamond forms. The vertical structure features a central column with fluted blackened shaft encircled by trailing gilt bronze vines, rising to a gilt canopy and hung with strands of faceted crystal drops. The chandelier’s composition incorporates crisply cast acanthus foliage throughout, with candle cups and bobeches retaining sharp definition and minimal oxidation. The lower arms curve in corkscrew fashion, each hung with multiple tiers of pendant prisms that terminate in large, sharply cut drop pendants. Additional crystal festoons are draped between arms and up the body of the chandelier, producing a sense of rhythmic balance. All twelve arms retain their faux candle sleeves and drip pans in white, with shaped glass flame finials.
