Antique French Louis XVI Style Sèvres Porcelain and Gilt Bronze Chandelier This chandelier presents an elaborate Louis XVI style design combining richly gilded bronze with vibrant blue Sèvres porcelain panels. The structure features multiple scrolling gilt bronze arms extending from a central body of porcelain and ormolu. Each arm supports a porcelain bobèche, delicately hand-painted with pink floral garlands over a turquoise ground, bordered in gilt. The chandelier’s central section incorporates multiple ovoid Sèvres porcelain plaques framed by finely cast bronze foliage and scrolls. These plaques depict alternating scenes of cherubs surrounded by clouds, garlands of flowers, and floral sprays enclosed within gilt cartouches. The composition is surmounted by a pierced gilt bronze canopy modeled with foliate and scroll motifs and completed by a lower porcelain baluster section ending in a gilt bronze acorn finial. The hand-painted porcelain plaques show a consistent theme of amorous and pastoral imagery, characteristic of Sèvres porcelain decoration during the 19th century. Each cherub is rendered with soft pastel tones, often holding flowers or ribbons, symbolizing love, innocence, and the pleasures of nature.
