About the Item
An elegant and finely proportioned Italian chandelier dating to the late 19th century, carved in wood and gesso with original water-gilded details, suspended from a hand-forged iron armature. The turned central stem is richly articulated with classical baluster forms and carved foliate reserves, retaining a beautifully aged surface with traces of original gilding and time-softened paint.
Six gracefully scrolled iron arms radiate from the central body, each terminating in carved wooden bobeches with parcel-gilt accents and newly fitted drip-wax candle sleeves, preserving the authentic candlelit silhouette while allowing for modern electrical use. The iron retains its original darkened patina, offering a subtle contrast to the warm, timeworn gilding of the carved elements.
Recently professionally rewired to US standards, this chandelier has been fitted with new chain and canopy and is fully ready for installation. The finish is untouched and richly layered, showing honest wear, minor losses, and irregularities consistent with age—adding depth, character, and undeniable presence.
