About the Item
- An original and extremely rare two tone Bauhaus pendant light by Kandem, Germany 1920.
- The pendant consists of two glass sections, the upper etched and stamped, the lower dish opaline and again stamped with the Kandem logo and model number.
- A remarkable design in an incredible condition for its age, the gallery manufactured in ornate steel and porcelain.
- Height 64cm, Width 39cm, Depth 39cm.
- Rewired in braided flex and PAT tested.
Kandem Lighting manufacturer Körting
Mathiesen also known as Kandem were founded in Leipzig Germany in 1889. As the company grew it formulated a contract between the Bauhaus metal workshop and school directed by metalsmith and photographer Marianne Brandt. Brandt and her students designed and developed lamps for mass production. The Kandem-Bauhaus relationship ended in 1933 when the school closed, production continued and they are now widely considered to be the benchmark in design history.
