About the Item

This elegant pendant light, attributed to Pietro Chiesa for Fontana Arte, exemplifies the refined modernism of Italian design in the 1940s. Featuring a conical brass stem and a wide circular glass diffuser, the piece achieves a perfect balance between geometric rigor and luminous transparency. The frosted central element softens the light, while the polished brass details provide warmth and sophistication. Pietro Chiesa (1892–1948), one of Italy’s most influential 20th-century designers, became artistic director of Fontana Arte in 1933 alongside Gio Ponti. His work is renowned for its use of glass in innovative forms, combined with restrained yet luxurious materials. This pendant embodies Chiesa’s vision: functional elegance and timeless aesthetics suitable for both private residences and prestigious public interiors. The pendant remains in very good vintage condition, with minor wear consistent with age and use. The glass surface is free from cracks and retains its clarity, while the brass shows a beautiful aged patina that enhances its authenticity. A rare collector’s item, this chandelier represents an opportunity to acquire a museum-quality example of Italian Art Deco transitioning into modernist design. Perfect for a dining room, entryway, or gallery-inspired setting.
