Manufactured in the German Eastern Bloc during the 1950s, these rare industrial pendant lights are crafted from dark brown / black Bakelite, an early moulded plastic celebrated for its exceptional durability, heat resistance, and distinctive matte texture. Originally installed in factories and workshops, they were designed to deliver dependable task lighting in demanding industrial environments.
Each pendant retains its original German safety plate marked *“Achtung Brandgefahr”* (Warning: Fire Hazard), a striking detail that underscores their authentic working history and mid-century industrial provenance. Measuring approximately 23 cm in diameter, their compact scale makes them particularly well suited for use over kitchen islands, shop counters, dining tables, or restaurant booths, where they introduce character without overwhelming a space.
Carefully salvaged and sensitively refurbished in the UK, each light has been professionally rewired by hand to meet modern safety standards, ensuring suitability for contemporary residential and commercial interiors.
