About the Item
Each pendant features a robust black-and-white enamelled steel shade, paired with a cast-iron gallery finished in a hand-applied oxidised patina. Below, a thick glass well sits securely within a protective steel cage, a design intended to guard the lamp in environments subject to dust, vibration, and impact. The glass wells retain their original manufacturer’s markings, a rare surviving detail that directly anchors these lights to their mid-century industrial origins.
Produced in the nationalised factories of former Czechoslovakia during the 1950s, these heavy-duty industrial pendant lights were originally manufactured for agricultural and processing facilities in the country’s northwest. They belong to a vast network of state-run industries that defined the post-war Eastern Bloc, where lighting was engineered first and foremost for endurance, safety, and continuous operation.
Salvaged in complete form and sensitively restored, the pendants retain the honest surface texture and age-appropriate wear acquired through decades of industrial use. Subtle character marks remain visible across the enamelled shades, while the cast iron galleries have been oxidised with a bespoke hand applied rust effect for a warm and characterful finish.
Today, these sculptural pendants translate seamlessly into contemporary interiors. They work particularly well in kitchens, dining areas, restaurants, workshops, studios, and gallery spaces, where their bold silhouette, utilitarian detailing, and Eastern Bloc provenance create a strong visual and historical presence. Both functional and collectible, they exemplify the uncompromising industrial design philosophy of mid-century Central Europe.
Professionally rewired using new CE-certified components, with UL-listed options available for the USA. Supplied with a ceiling hanging kit including chain and hook, providing a drop length of approximately 100 cm. Additional drop lengths can be supplied on request.
