About the Item
Brutalist and Space Age Cocoon pendant lamp, Italy, 1970s. This lamp is reminiscent of the designs of Achille Castiglioni and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni for FLOS during the 60s and 70s. It is made of blue Cocoon resin with a white lacquered metal structure, and a brass part where the lamp holder is mounted. Very much in the style of the Taraxacum pendant lamp, designed by Castiglioni. This design icon became very popular in all of the interiors of those decades, and still today is a very coveted object. The fact that the Cocoon material of this lamp is blue makes this lamp even more spectacular, curious and a very unusual piece.
Very much in the style also of George Nelson and Isamu Noguchi, who used this material as the main element in many of their designs.
The Cocoon material was invented after World War II to protect unarmed warships and other unprotected items. It is made of powdered plastic and fiberglass.
For an E27 bulb. Electrical installation renovated and fully operational. LED compatible. Slight wear on the metal parts. Cable lenght: 170cm.
